Summer Makeup Edit
With summer right around the corner, I've started reorganizing my Muji makeup drawers and pulling forward my favorite makeup bits for the warmer months. I also have some new products that I'm testing out, so this is almost an entirely new roundup from the one for spring. Summer makeup is always a little tricky because I want products that are light and colorful yet won't melt off when I step outside my house. This usually requires a lot of trial and error, but I've finally put together a fantastic makeup edit of products perfect for the season.
If you're a fan of makeup, you know that having a killer base is essential for keeping your summer face from melting off. for my summer base, I start off by using the Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer to help hydrate my skin and give it a healthy glow. I've just recently started using this primer after hearing great things about it from a few of my favorite bloggers, and I have to say it's definitely on of the best I've ever tried. Next, I move on to foundation, and I've got two that I've been bouncing between. As I've said before, I really like lightweight foundations for the summertime, but still want a bit of coverage to help even out my skin. I'm a huge fan of Tarte's Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer in Ivory and use it most days for a flawless base, but I've also been using the NYX Total Control Drop Foundation in Pale because it's really light and has a nice amount of coverage. To cover up any leftover redness and imperfections, Urban Decay's Naked Skin Concealer in Fair Neutral is my product of choice. I've talked a lot about this concealer in the past because it's such an incredible product and really feels weightless on the skin (also, it blends out beautifully). Lastly, to set everything and insure my makeup stays on all day, I've been using the Rimmel London #Insta Fix & Matte Powder. I've always been a huge fan of their Stay Matte setting powders, and think this new collection is a great addition to the brand.
Eyes + Brows
I've recently fallen back in love with powder eyeshadows, and have been using them like crazy lately. The Barely There Eyeshadow Palette* from Models Own is absolutely gorgeous and includes all of the neutral shades I tend to be drawn to. I've also been putting together my own custom ColourPop palette with some of their amazingly pigmented shades, and between these two palettes I'm absolutely set for eyeshadows. To keep my eyes looking bright and awake (even though I'm fighting some vicious allergies at the moment), I use a bit of ColourPop's HoneyDude Crème Gel Liner to line my bottom waterlines. I like to keep things simple with my upper lash line, and have just been using Maybelline's Line Stiletto in Blackest Black to create a simple winged look. Then, I coat my lashes with some of Benefit's Roller Lash (this stuff is amazing!) and my eyes are good to go. I don't have to do too much for my brows since I have bangs and you can barely see them, but I do like to fill in any sparse areas with the Models Own Now Brow! Pencil & Blender Duo* and then give them a gentle brush through to set them.
For the summertime, I try to stick to only powder cheek products because they have a longer staying time in the heat and humidity. My only exception to this would be Glossier's Haloscope Highlighter Stick, but that's just because it has an almost balm-like texture that really sticks to the skin all day. For everything else though, it's powder. My other go-to highlighter at the moment is the Too Faced Love Light Prismatic Highlighter in Ray Of Light. This has a really gorgeous sheen to it, and the peachy color adds a little bit of warmth to the skin which I think it's lovely for summer. To contour, Pixi's Natural Contour Powder* is hands down my favorite product to get the job done. Since I have such pale skin, I really have to be careful with what I use to contour - anything too warm and my skin can instantly look muddy and orange. Cool-toned browns are the way to go to create that illusion of shadow, and this contour powder is absolutely perfect. For blush, I love going with warmer colors in the summer. Too Faced has a gorgeous warm nude shade called Baby Love from their Love Flush Blush collection that looks so good with everything. My other favorite summer blush is the Hourglass Ambient Strobe Lighting Blush in Incandescent Electra. It's the prettiest pinky peach blush that adds a stunning glow to the cheeks.
I'm completely obsessed with the whole blotted lip trend that's becoming popular right now. It's such a cute look for summer, and reminds me of how my lips would look after eating popsicles during the summer when I was younger. The Generation G lip colors from Glossier are perfect for effortlessly creating this look. I'm currently using the shade Crush, which is a pretty raspberry pink that's perfect for the season. ColourPop also has a collection of Ultra Blotted Lip Colors that give them same look and dry completely matte. I've been using a couple of them and the shades Slide and Bit-O Sunny are super cute. On days that I'm wanting something a little more glossy, I've been reaching for the Too Faced Sweet Peach Creamy Lip Oils. These feel completely dreamy on the lips, and the two shades I got (Peach Tease and Peach, Please!) are the perfect summer peachy pinks.
