Simple Ways To Add Some Sparkle
I think the one area of makeup where beauty obsessives differ the most is when it comes to adding a bit of sparkle. Some like a blinding amount of shine, while others like more of a natural glow. For me, I'm more of a subtle shimmer kind of girl. I love to add some sparkle to my makeup but try to do it so it's not overly noticeable (I'd rather have it look natural than intentional, if that makes sense). If you're like me, you probably look for ways to add a bit of shimmer to your beauty routines without going overboard too. Here are a few of my favorite techniques and products that always get the job done.
When it comes to face products, there are two different ways I like to sneak in some shimmer - an illuminating primer or a nice highlighting powder. Right now, I'm all about highlighters. I've been bouncing back and forth between the Kevyn Aucoin Celestial Powder in Candlelight and Charlotte Tilbury's Filmstar Bronze & Glow Palette. Both are absolutely amazing highlighters that give your skin more of a sheen rather than just layering on big chunks of glitter, so they're perfect for anyone looking for a subtle glow. A new find I've been recently trying out is the Makeup Revolution Vivid Shimmer Brick in Radiant. I've really been liking it because you can swirl all of the color together for a diffused look, or you can just focus on one shade (like that top one!) for a more pronounced glow.
The easiest way to add some glow to your eyes is by using champagne shades. I've already swatched a bunch of champagne eyeshadows that are heavenly, and my current two favorites are Maybelline's Color Tattoo in Barely Branded and L'Oreal's Infallible Shadow in Iced Latte. Shimmery champagne shades help brighten up the eye and help you look more awake, so they're definitely worth using (even if you're not thinking about adding extra sparkle). I love a good one-wash shadow for all over the lid, but you can also use a little bit in the inner corners to brighten up the eyes, as well as under the brow bone for a bit of an eyebrow lift.
If you're feeling a little apprehensive about introducing shimmer to your makeup routine, I highly suggest starting with your lip products. Finding a good lip color that is super shiny and glossy is a great way to give some glow to your look without all of the glitter. L.A. Girls has some great Glazed Lip Paints that really help your lips glisten and look pouty, plus they're super affordable. If you want something that has more shimmer to it, definitely check out the Buxom Full-On Lip Polishes - they even plump your lips up to look fuller too!
A pretty obvious (yet sometimes overlooked) way to add some sparkle is by giving yourself a glittery manicure. I'm a huge fan of Essie's Luxeffects To Coats. They're full of chunky glitters, and look amazing on their own as well as over top another color. If you're looking for an extra sparkly mani, try layering multiple glitter polishes together for some concentrated shimmer.
