Most of us are constantly looking for ways to make our blogs better. It takes time and hard work to build a quality blog, but that doesn't mean there aren't things you can do to improve your blog instantly. Here are three ways you can make your blog better today.
You may think having that CAPTCHA in your comment form is necessary to keep away spam accounts, but it's honestly doing more harm than good. Readers wanting to leave comments will get quickly annoyed (and more likely to leave without commenting in the future) when they have to decipher and type in a random string of characters every time they want to comment. And honestly, you're not going to be dealing with many spammy comments unless your blog is SUPER popular. If you're still worried about monitoring your comments for spam, most blog platforms allow you to sign up for emails every time someone comments on your blog, and you'll be able to quickly remove any spam that comes through.
Make All Of Your Photos The Same Width
One way to tell an amateur blogger from an experienced one is by their photos. Not only does photography style and lighting matter, but posting all of your photos at the same width will make your posts look uniform and professional. To make your posts look even better, size your photos to be the same width as your posts themselves. My blog posts are sized at a width of 800px, so I make sure to resize all of my photos accordingly so they flow nicely with the text.
Choose A Color Scheme
Nothing is worse that visiting a blog and not being able to focus on the posts because there are just so many colors distracting you. Trust me, I've done my fair share of blog designs that were a hot mess. The best thing to do is pick a color scheme - maybe 4-5 colors - and stick to it. Remember that a white or light color background is easier on the eyes and allows your posts and photography to really stand out. When picking colors, try to keep them neutral with an accent color, or in similar color families or shades (like pink and purples or all pastels). For AGO, I chose a color scheme consisting of black/white/pink/grey. I'll sometimes throw in a different color to mix things up, but I mostly try to stick to those four colors.
