It’s that time of the month again for me to share the contents of my makeup bag! This month, I’ve been keeping things really simple, sheer, and glowy. My skin has been behaving pretty well, so I’ve been able to get away with wearing lighter makeup and instead focusing on achieving that dewy effect that I absolutely love. Because of this, my everyday makeup has been especially easy to apply and I’m able to slap everything on quite quickly.
To start, I’ve been using a mix of Glossier’s Priming Moisturizer and the No POREblem Primer from Touch In Sol as a way to both hydrate and prime my skin. This combo has been working out quite nicely for my skin. It helps blur my pores and makes my makeup look really nice all day long, plus it’s hydrating so I don’t have to worry about any dryness during the day.
My base routine really hasn’t changed up much (surprise, surprise). Whenever I find makeup that makes my skin look flawless and not cakey, I tend to obsess over it. For foundation, I’m still swearing by a mix of The Ordinary’s Serum Foundation in 1.0 NS and the Total Control Drop Foundation from NYX in Pale. I’m in love with this combo because it makes my skin look so good and gives a great amount of coverage while still feeling lightweight on the skin.
I’m actually using a different concealer this month, and so far it’s going quite well. I picked up Colourpop’s No Filter Concealer in Fair 5 a couple months ago and it somehow go buried in my makeup table. When I was having a destash of my products a few weeks ago, I came across it and knew I had to add it to my makeup bag so I could give it a proper try out. I’ve really been loving it so far – it offers a lot of coverage and doesn’t oxidize on me so it’s perfect highlighting the under eye area. The only problem I’ve had with it is it does crease on me after a little bit, so I just have to make sure I set my eyes quickly with some powder before that happens.
Speaking of powder, I’m still completely obsessed with Glossier’s Wowder in Light. This is such a dreamy powder that gives my skin a soft, airbrushed look, and it works so well at setting my makeup. One trick I’ve been doing is to use a damp beauty blender to apply my setting powder. Something about this just helps it all melt into the skin, and I swear ever since I started doing this, my makeup no longer creases or settles into fine lines.
For brows, I’m still using my old standby Boy Brow in Brown to fill in any sparse areas and keep the hairs in place all day. Before that though, I’ve been using the Models Own Now Brow Pencil* (discontinued) to help make my brows look nice and sharp. It’s not a bad pencil, but I’m probably going to end up swapping it out for the ABH one instead for better results. I’ve also been wanting to give the Soap & Glory Archery Pencil a try – is it worth the hype?
Since my goal has been dewy-looking skin, I’ve been focusing on creamy cheek products that give a good sheen. I’ve actually been skipping blush and just using a combo of Haloscope in Topaz and Cloud Paint in Dusk to both contour and warm up my cheeks a little. I learned this trick from Kelsey and have really been loving the way it looks. Then to highlight, I’ve been dusting plenty of Fenty Beauty’s Killawatt Highlighter in Lightning Dust/Fire Crystal over the high points of my face. This is such an incredible highlight, and if you only buy one thing from Fenty Beauty I definitely suggest you get this.
My eyes have been completely devoted to Glossier’s Lidstars this month. I’m so in love with these sheer, shimmery shadows because they look gorgeous on the eyes, stay put all day long without creasing, and don’t require a primer at all. My go-to look has been Slip all over the lid with a bit of Fawn in the outer corners for definition, and then Moon in the inner corners and on the brow bone to highlight. I just ordered Cub and Lily to complete my collection, and I can’t wait to try them out. I think Cub might be my new favorite shade after all of the swatches I’ve seen online.
I’ve got Colourpop’s Creme Gel Eyeliner Pencil in Swerve in my makeup bag for days when I want to add a bit of definition to my eyes. I haven’t really needed to use it lately though thanks to Benefit’s BADgal Bang Mascara. This has been such a surprising find – when I first saw pictures online, I was sure I was going to hate this mascara because I absolutely can’t stand the look of “spider” lashes. Upon trying it however, I’m completely obsessed with it. I’ve found that the only time it makes my lashes look spidery is when I do multiple coats. Since I usually only do one coat of mascara, this hasn’t been a problem for me, and the best part is that you don’t even need more than one coat. This mascara makes my lashes look so long and full, and it doesn’t flake off or melt under my eyes. It only took my mom seeing my lashes with this once for her to order her own tube, haha.
I was recently sent a few lipsticks from Urban Decay, and I’ve completely fallen for the Vice Lipstick in Backtalk*. It’s the most gorgeous mauve pink shade, and the Comfort Matte formula is so creamy and comfortable to wear. I’ve been wearing this most days, but on the rare occasion that I’m wanting something a bit more glossy, I’ve been reaching for Fenty Beauty’s Gloss Bomb Lip Luminizer. This is one of the most hydrating and glossy lip glosses I’ve ever used. The shade is so nice and works for pretty much any look, plus it makes the lips look really full.
The last item in my makeup bag is Glossier’s You Perfume Solid. I just got this a few days ago and it’s already become a makeup bag staple. I’m obsessed with this scent but obviously can’t keep a big perfume bottle in my bag without risking it breaking, so it’s really nice to have a little solid version of it that can be applied whenever. Also, the packaging is so satisfying to play with (if you follow me on Instagram, you already know this).
Have you switched up your makeup bag lately?
