As I’m sure most of you can tell, it’s looking a bit different around here. Last week on Instagram I hinted at a little something special I had planned for the blog, and today I’m so excited to reveal my new blog design! It’s not just a surface level thing though. Behind the scenes, I’ve fully switched my blog over from Squarespace to self-hosted WordPress – something I’ve been wanting to do for such a long time but was too afraid to tackle on my own.
After doing a bit of research, I came across a company called Pipdig, who not only designs gorgeous blog layouts but also has migration services for anyone wanting to switch from their current blogging platform (Blogger, Wix, Squarespace) to WordPress. I’ve never paid for any help with my blog before, so I decided now was the time to invest some real funds into AGO and I’m so incredibly happy with my choice. I got t work with Phil, and he took care of everything for me in a matter of days. My blog never had to go offline, I didn’t have to spend days agonizing over how to migrate everything properly, and now I’ve got a blog that has honestly never looked more professional. I can’t recommend Pipdig enough (not sponsored, but ridiculously thrilled with my results), and will definitely be using them in the future for any of my design or technical needs.
I’ve only been using WordPress for 24 hours, but I can already tell that it’s miles ahead of every other platform out there. I used Blogger for 6-7 years and Squarespace for a little over 1 year. Both platforms work great for blogging, especially if you’re a beginner, but if you’re ready to take your blog to the next level it looks like WordPress is where it’s at. I’m currently overwhelmed by all of the options I have available to me. There are so many plugins for everything you can think of – customization, SEO, social media, design, etc. I currently have the Yoast SEO plugin installed, and I’m able to make sure I have the proper SEO techniques in play for each individual blog post which is incredibly helpful. It takes all of the guesswork out of what you are and are not supposed to do, and I think it’s going to help immensely with my overall traffic.
Do you use WordPress? Which plugins do you recommend?
