Two Glossier reviews in one week? I know, I know…It may seem like a bit much, but I already had this review of Glossier Solution ready to go and then all of the hype around the Lidstars launch happened so I had to put this off. I’ve really been looking forward to sharing my thoughts on this product though, so I didn’t want to wait too long to update you guys on my thoughts and if Solution worked for me.
What It Is? What Does It Do?
Glossier Solution is a chemical exfoliant that gently sloughs away dead skin cells by dissolving the bonds gluing problematic dead cells to the healthy skin beneath. When using it once a day, it’s supposed to clear acne and blackheads, diminish the look of pores, reduce redness, and help even out the skin’s texture. The biggest claim of this skincare product is that it is supposed to transform your skin after just 4 weeks of use.
Solution comes in a pink plastic bottle with a flat pump dispenser on top. You get 4.4 fl oz / 130 ml of product for $24 USD (Solution is currently sold out for US buyers, but it will be back this May). The formula contains a particular 10% blend of three acid actives for maximum efficacy: Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA), Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA), and Polyhydroxy Acid (PHA). Glossier also offers 60-count packs of Deluxe Cotton Rounds that can be used with Solution. I bought a pack and have been absolutely loving them, and will definitely be buying more in the future.
A 4-Week Trial
When I purchased Solution, I decided to do a full 4-week trial so I could really see how well it would work. I don’t suffer too badly from acne (just the odd hormonal breakout during the month), so I was using this more so for the exfoliation and to help with texture and redness. I used this once a day (usually in the morning), and used it consistently for 4 weeks. After just the first couple uses, I could see a change in my skin. All of my dry patches were exfoliated away and there was a nice, healthy glow to my skin. As the weeks went on, my complexion just got better and better. Acne scares started to lighten and disappear. Dryness became a thing of the past. By week four, almost all of my texture issues had been relieved. The tiny little bums on my cheeks were completely cleared up and I’m happy to say there were virtually no white heads on my skin.
Pros & Cons
In a market where everyone has released their own chemical exfoliant, do you really need to pick up Glossier’s Solution? Honestly, that depends on your skin type and which issues you need resolved. For someone like me who suffers from severe dry patches and uneven texture, this has been dream. I also think this would be absolutely incredible for anyone with oily skin as it really helps dry up any overly oily areas (my chin and forehead have finally gone back to normal since using this).
One thing that bothered me about Solution is that it always made my skin feel tacky afterwards for about 5 or 10 minutes. My skincare routine has been constantly changing, and even with different products in use it still left a tackiness to my skin. I got used to it after about a week but I thought I would mention it in case that’s a deal breaker for other people. Another disappointing factor is that this really didn’t do anything for my redness. I suffer from sensitive skin and have redness on my cheeks and forehead, and sadly this didn’t really do much to help relieve it. The good news is that this did not irritate my sensitive skin one bit, which surprised me considering there’s such a high amount of acids in this.
Overall, I have to say I’ve really enjoyed Solution and will continue to use it. I’m on week 5 or 6 (honestly I’ve lost count now, haha) and still have about half of the bottle left. Once I finish it off, I have a bunch of other chemical exfoliants to get through and test out, but I will definitely be picking up another bottle of this for future use.
Have you tried Solution yet?
