I’ve seen several different articles about the newest “strategy” or “gameplan” to take your blog to the next level. While that may work for some, I like to take a more simplistic approach to blogging. If I start getting too overwhelmed with a huge list of strategies and to-do’s, I lose my focus and blogging goes from being something fun to being a chore. In my opinion, there are only a handful of things you really have to do in order to have a thriving blog. It’s not as hard as it may seem, it just takes time and dedication.
7 Blogging Habits To Take Up This Year
Share your posts on social media | Every time that you publish a new post, make sure you share it on all of your social media channels. I have my posts auto-share to Twitter each morning after the post has gone live, and then I share to Pinterest, Instagram, and Twitter (again) throughout the day.
Take killer blog photos | I’ve already talked about blog photography a few times in the past, but I really do believe that including beautiful, eye-catching photos in each of your posts is key to a successful blog.
Write engaging post titles | Having relevant post titles not only helps with SEO, but it also makes readers more likely to click on the post and read your content.
Create high-quality content that aims to help, inform, entertain, or benefit your readers in some way | There’s several different ways to do this – DIYs, How-To’s, Tutorials, Guides, Roundups, Reviews, Tips & Tricks, etc. My biggest tip? Don’t be afraid to share your secrets.
Create an editorial calendar that works for you | Everybody’s schedules and lifestyles are all different, so what works for one person might now work for another. Creating an editorial calendar (as well as a blogging and photography schedule) that works best for you will help you stay organized and keep the content churning out regularly.
Blog with intention and work as hard as you can | If you’re wanting to take your blog from a hobby to something business-worthy, you’ve got to take it seriously. Work your butt off and try to do better with each post. Be intentional with what you create and how you present yourself – always strive to put your best foot forward.
Make yourself known in the community | Don’t just assume that by creating spectacular content will net you views and readers. You’ve got to get yourself out there and introduce yourself to the rest of the community. Try to take some time every day (or every week, if your schedule is too hectic) and visit other blogs. Leave friendly, relevant comments and include a link back to your blog so the person has a way to contact you back. This is a great way to meet other bloggers and make new friends, as well as increase your traffic and readership.
