Numerous late night parties, too many cocktails, slice after slice of pie…It’s no wonder we’re all exhausted once January arrives. Now that the holiday festivities are truly over, it’s time to work on getting back to our usual selves. This may seem like a tricky thing to accomplish, but here are a few ways I like to do it so I can get back into my routine in no time flat.
Get Plenty Of Sleep
Sleep is crucial for our bodies to heal and get their usual energy levels back. Even if you have a crazy schedule, make sure you’re putting enough focus on getting a good 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep each night. Your body will thank you for it, and you will definitely notice an increase in energy and overall happiness.
After all of the rich, heavy foods from the holidays, there’s nothing quite like some fresh produce to help you recover. I totally go a little crazy with the chocolate during Christmastime, so once January hits I make sure to incorporate lots of leafy greens and fresh veggies into my diet to make up for all of the splurging. Fresh soups and winter salads are great ways to up your vegetable intake this time of year.
It is so incredibly important to make sure you stay hydrated, especially during winter. Drinking plenty of water will help with your general sense of well being, as well as helping you get through any of those crummy winter colds that we all seem to get right after the winter break. It doesn’t just stop with your insides – make sure you keep your outsides hydrated too! Slather on those moisturizing masks and creams, and always keep a balm on hand to avoid chapped lips.
Work It Out
Despite your lackluster energy levels from too many holiday parties, getting a good workout in is a great way to make you feel better and help you recover from all of the treats you indulged in. Even something as simple as a bundled up walk around your neighborhood will get those endorphins pumping, which means you’ll be in better spirits in no time.
Take It Easy
January and February have always felt like slow months to me, and I think that’s a good thing. After such a busy season, it’s best to allow ourselves a bit of “hibernation” time to recover and take care of ourselves. Sleep in when you can, wear your favorite cozy clothes, stay in for the night if you don’t feel like going out…do the things that allow you to take care of you, and you’ll be feeling refreshed in no time.
