10 Things To Do In 2018

Happy New Year! I am so excited that a fresh, new year is upon us. There’s nothing quite like a fresh start to help motivate us and get us in an inspired state of mind. January 1st always feels like the ultimate restart for me, which is a bit cliché I know, but I embrace it because I love taking part in something that a lot of other people are doing as well. The sense of community is fun, and I love getting to cheer each other on as we all work on bettering ourselves. To kick the year off, I’ve set myself 10 major goals that I would like to achieve throughout the next 12 months.

10 Things To Do In 2018

Eliminate distractions | At the beginning of each year, I like to give myself a word or phrase as the theme for the coming months. For 2018, I’ve chosen “eliminate distractions” as my main goal. I can be easily distracted, so I’m focusing on getting rid of any distractions in my life so I can get more done, have more fun, and live my best life.

Start a new hobby | This year, I’d love to pick up a new hobby. I haven’t decided yet what I’d like to learn, but I’m leaning heavily towards watercolor painting, cross-stitch, or floral design.

Let go of clutter | I talked about this one a bit in my 2017 review post, and it’s something I definitely want to continue into the new year. I’m going to start off by having a full clean out of my bedroom and closet, followed by a major destash of my makeup and skincare collections.

Focus on health | I turn 29 this month (eep!), and a big goal I’ve set for myself is to get my health in check before turning 30. My 20s have been my time to have fun and do whatever I want, but now that they’re coming to a close I want to focus on bigger things (like finding a husband and starting a family). Getting in shape is really important to me this year so I can start my 30s off right. I’ll be making a few lifestyle changes that support healthier living, and I’m excited to share my journey with you all here.

Experience something new | This year, I want to push myself outside of my comfort zone and experience some new things. What that really means, I’m not sure…maybe I’ll travel somewhere new on my own, actually go out for coffee with someone I’ve been wanting to befriend, or attend an event I’ve been interested in. Maybe I’ll do all three!

Work hard, play hard | I’m a big believer in hard work, and tend to be a bit of a workaholic. I’m also the type that goes from one extreme to the other, so seasons of intense work are usually followed by seasons of laziness for me. In 2018, I’d like to create a better work-play balance – knowing when it’s time to work and when it’s okay to relax a bit.

Read more | I read a little bit over my Christmas break, and it was so nice to just sit down with a book for an hour or two! To go along with the previous goal, when I am relaxing I’d like to read more instead of always being on my phone, plugged in to social media.

Enjoy the outdoors | This is a bit embarrassing to admit, but I spend a huge majority of my time indoors. I’d really like to change that this year, and plan on getting outside more (even if it’s just a leisurely walk around my neighborhood). I figure this will tie in well with my health goal, plus it gives me a chance to get out and explore some of our local forests and nature trails.

Be wise with finances | Starting today, I’ll be challenging myself to a spending ban for the year. I have a bit of a problem with shopping, and I thought this would be a great way to break myself of it. I’m only allowed to purchase necessities like toiletries and food, but everything else is not allowed. Instead, I’m going to use what I already have until it’s completely gone. Not only will this help me with my goal of getting rid of excess, but it will also allow me to save money so I can become debt-free this year.

Learn new things | I pride myself on being self-taught for many things, and want to continue learning new things in 2018. The main subjects I want to focus on are Christianity, photography, entrepreneurship, and plant-based eating, but I’m game for becoming knowledgeable about any topic life throws my way this year.
