While I’ll forever be a fan of drugstore makeup, there’s just something about higher end brands that will always have my heart. They’re so much more likely to deliver on their claims, their packaging is always incredible, and the quality of the makeup itself can rarely be beat. After going through a major makeup de-stash before moving, I realized that there were certain high end brands that I’ve developed quite a bond with. It can be rare to find brands like these that continuously hold up to the hype, but here are 6 that have never disappointed me.
If I had to only use one brand of makeup for the rest of my life, I think it would have to be NARS. Their products have always worked incredibly well for me, and I feel like you get amazing quality for your money. The first item I ever purchased from NARS was their cult classic blush in Orgasm. I remember swatching it in my local Sephora and falling in love instantly. Soon after, I purchased the Sheer Glow Foundation, which has turned into another forever favorite. I’m a huge fan of their chic packaging as well. Every product they make always feels so luxe, and I’m looking forward to adding more NARS goodies to my collection.
I must confess that Too Faced originally drew me in because of their super cute packaging. Luckily, the positives for this brand don’t stop there. I’ve tried a handful of their products, from lipsticks and mascara to eyeshadows and primers, and everything has far exceeded my expectations. I’m currently obsessed with the Hangover Replenishing Face Primer. It’s so hydrating and makes my skin look incredibly fresh, plus my makeup really sticks to it so there’s no budging throughout the day.
Charlotte Tilbury is my luxe brand of choice. Every makeup product they make is so glamorous, I always feel like a movie star when using them. The Filmstar Bronze & Glow palette is hands down one of the best of it’s kind. The powders are incredibly buttery and just melt into the skin, making them a joy to flawlessly blend out. I’m also forever in love with the Uptown Girl Eyeshadow Quad. The colors are so gorgeous, and I love that you can get both a simple everyday look and a smokey eye out of the same little compact.
I first discovered Buxom when I was looking for lip plumping products. I read several great reviews about their glosses, and since they had so many gorgeous colors to choose from I decided to pick a few up and instantly became a fan of the brand. Buxom’s Full-On Lip Polishes are so glossy and light, and they literally have a color for everyone. Also, unlike other products I’ve tried, these actually do make your lips look and feel fuller (nothing crazy, but I do always notice a nice difference to my pout).
Kevyn Aucoin was an incredible makeup artist, and his products are some of my favorite. Everything from his brand is high end and luxury. The price tag is definitely a bit steep, but you get such high quality for the money. I’m particularly smitten with the Celestial Highlighting Powder in Candlelight. It gives the skin such a gorgeous glow without relying on chunky pieces of glitter, so it looks very natural when worn. Also, again, this is a brand with fantastic packaging. It’s very classic and well made, and looks especially chic on my makeup table.
My final no-fail makeup brand is Hourglass. I’m so head-over-heels for this brand, it’s a bit ridiculous. There’s just something about how the light reflects off of their blushes and highlights that makes my heart incredibly happy. The Ambient Lighting Blushes especially – they are so buttery smooth, and look absolutely incredible on the skin. Mood Exposure is my go-to shade for fall and winter, and I’m currently crushing on Incandescent Electra for summer.
