5 Tips For Staying Positive On The Daily

I’ve been asked several times in the past how I always stay so positive. While I’m not in flight attendant-mode 24/7, I do try to focus on embracing and exuding positivity every day. It’s just way too easy to be a Debbie Downer about every little thing…I like the challenge of finding the beauty and goodness in every day. If you’re trying to embrace positivity and happiness on a daily basis, here are my top 5 tips for making this important lifestyle change.

Keep A Gratitude Journal

Every night before bed, I like to jot down a few things from the day that I am super grateful for. Sometimes they’re big things, like a safe trip or a prayer being answered, and sometimes they’re small things, like the smell of rain that afternoon or waking up to puppy snuggles and kisses. A gratitude journal is kind of like a simplified diary…I know exactly what I’m writing every night so it only takes a few minutes, but it documents the most important things from each day. Being able to read back over happy memories and special little things will instantly pep you up if you’re having a bad day.

Clear Your Head

Sometimes stress has a way of building up and clogging your brain. It becomes hard to concentrate and focus on what needs to be done, and on days like these I usually have to take a break to clear my head before I burst into tears (although sometimes a good cry is just what you need to de-stress). The best way I clear my head is to go to a quiet room (usually my bedroom), lay down on a bed or the floor, and focus on my breathing for a few minutes. I let every thought flow out of my head and just pay attention to the quiet and let myself feel calm and relaxed. This is kind of how I meditate and slow my ever racing mind. Maybe for you the best way to clear your head is to go for a walk or listen to some calm music, or maybe doing something slow-paced like yoga. Whatever it is, make sure to take some time at least once a week to de-stress and find your happy.

Surround Yourself With Your Favorite Things

Do you like to go shopping? What about cooking? Maybe you enjoy karate or scrapbooking or jogging…whatever activities or things in life that are your favorites, make sure to surround yourself with them. Make them a part of your daily life. Take classes that inspire and challenge you. Decorate your living or work space so that it makes you thrilled to be there. Dress up cute every day in clothes that make you feel beautiful and confident. Whatever you love, have it saturate your life.

Just Let Go

Learn to smile all the time. Act silly. Laugh a lot. Give yourself permission to let go and stop worrying about what anyone thinks. Be crazy and silly and fun. Be happy. In today’s society, it’s far too easy to allow ourselves to put restrictions and limits on how we feel, think, and act. Despite how it seems, we don’t have to hold on to every little offense that comes our way. Choose peace over pessimism.

Learn To Love Yourself

Low self-confidence and constant comparison of yourself to others can be absolutely crushing and will make it incredibly hard to focus on anything positive. You’ve got to fall in love with yourself, flaws and all. Instead of always worrying about trying to change every little thing about yourself, you have to fully accept who you are (no thinking “oh I’ll love myself when…”) and show yourself nothing but love. It took me years to realize this, but now that I’ve completely accepted Mandy just the way she is, I’ve never been happier. It’s so much easier to focus on the positive things when you stop being negative towards yourself.

    I love this post. I think its because it is something I have been working on very hard this year. These tips are great, I think I will incorporate some of them into my routine!
