When it comes to everyday makeup, I really can’t pass up a good nude look. They’re easy to apply, always so effortless to wear, and look flattering no matter what outfit you’re rocking or how you’ve styled your hair for the day. I feel like simple nude makeup is almost like a security blanket – it’s the look I always turn to when I don’t really know how I want my makeup to look for the day or when I just can’t feel bothered to put a whole lot of effort into my routine. Neutral shades with just a hint of pink or bronze are some of my favorites, and over the years I’ve discovered some of the most amazing products in gorgeous nude shades.
I’m a sucker for nude shades for the eyes, especially when they come in a cream formula. One of my favorites is technically a primer – Urban Decay’s Primer Potion in Eden to be exact – but it offers a nice wash of nude color so it’s practically like wearing a neutral eyeshadow base. My other favorite cream nude is a recent discovery. For years, I’ve heard beauty bloggers and gurus rave about MAC’s Paintpot in Painterly. The color looks gorgeous, but I just can’t justify spending that much on a cream eyeshadow when I’ve got bills to pay and a business to run. After doing a bit of searching, I found a lot of bloggers saying that Maybelline’s Color Tattoo in Creme de Rose was a nearly identical dupe. Problem is, they apparently haven’t released this color in the US, but I was able to find it on a website called Fruugo that ships from the UK. I’ve been using this shade for the past week or so, and it’s safe to say that I am in love. Prettiest nude shadow I ever did see, with just the slightest hint of pink. It’s gorgeous as a base, but I really love just wearing it all over the lid with a bit of liquid liner and mascara. So pretty! When I’m wanting to work with layering powder shadows but still want a neutral eye, I always reach for the Urban Decay Naked Basics. This palette has been a lifesaver more times than I can count, and is surprisingly versatile despite the limited amount of shades included.
I will forever have a soft spot in my heart for nude blushes. They’re so incredibly flattering, and help add a bit of definition to the cheeks as well as some warmth and color. I have two favorites that I always go to, depending one what kind of look I’m going for. Tarte’s Love Flush Blush in Baby Love is more of a pinky nude and looks gorgeous in the spring, while H&M’s Powder Blush in Brown Sugar is a gorgeous bronze-y nude that is my favorite for summer. Both work perfectly at warming up my cheeks so I don’t look like a ghost, and they’re super easy to blend out for a natural-looking flush. Highlighters are having a bit of a moment right now, and they’re beginning to come in all sorts of colors. I’m still a fan of basic champagne highlighters though, and I’ve found an affordable option that is totally killing it. Ulta recently started carrying Makeup Revolution, and their Blushing Hearts Highlighter in Goddess Of Love is such a lovely champagne shade. It adds the prettiest sheen to the skin, plus that packaging is completely swoon-worthy.
Finding nude lip colors has always been tricky for me because it’s so easy to end up with a shade that makes me looks washed out or ghost-like. Luckily, after a lot of trial and error, I’ve found a few colors that always work for me. My go-to pinky nude shade will forever be MAC’s Creme Cup. It’s just the prettiest pale pink and looks incredible paired with a smokey eye. When I’m wanting more of a warm nude, I’ve been using Maybelline’s Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lipstick in Daringly Nude. There’s just something about a matte nude lip that looks incredibly chic. I love pairing this lipstick with some cream shadow and mascara for a clean, fresh-faced look. My last nude lip favorite is a recent find from the brand L.A. Girl. Their Glazed Lip Paint in Elude is a gorgeous peachy nude color, and is perfect for everyday wear. It’s a glossy cream that’s a little more on the sheer side, so you can either wear it by itself or over top of another color.
A classic nude mani is a staple for every season, and one of my favorite looks to go to when I don’t feel like wearing color. There are two different types of nude nails I like to wear – the first is Essie’s Sand Tropez paired with a matte topcoat like Sally Hansen’s Big Matte Top Coat*. Nude nails look amazing on their own, but I especially love how they look matte. Just like with lipstick, matte nails look incredibly chic and sophisticated, and I think they’re really on trend right now. The other nude nail I like to wear is something sheer and slightly pink, and Essie’s Ballet Slippers has been my favorite for this look. It’s one of the polishes that takes a couple coats to achieve the perfect opacity, but the milky look is so soft and feminine.
