I love curling up with a new book, especially during this time of year when most days are gloomy and all I want to do is stay inside wrapped in a big blanket. I got an Amazon gift card for my birthday, and decided to use most of it to get myself some new reads. Since we’re at the beginning of the year, I thought it would be a good idea to pick out a few books that would be beneficial for self development. I’m a big fan of books that promote wellness and help the reader improve their life in one way or another. The three books I chose all have something to do with personal development, and I’m excited to learn something new from each one.
This is the third installment of the “Eat Pretty” series, and I think it might possibly be my favorite out of the bunch. It’s filled with 365 days worth of health and wellness advice (one tips for each day), and it doesn’t just stop at what you’re eating. This book covers everything from nutrition and fitness to beauty and overall wellness. I love that it gives you a helpful tip to incorporate into your lifestyle each day, instead of trying to do a ton of changes all at once (which is likely to make you feel overwhelmed and defeated). It’s also divided up into each season (Spring, Summer, etc.) which I think it such a cute idea.
I saw this book pop up on a lot of the feeds of my overseas friends, so I jumped at the chance to snatch up a copy once it became available in the States. Like most people lately, I am absolutely in love with the idea of “Hygge“. According to the website Skagen, hygge is described as “the Danish ritual of enjoying life’s simple pleasures. Friends. Family. Graciousness. Contentment. Good feelings. A warm glow. Certainly, hygge is intrinsic to the Danish lifestyle, but this feeling of well-being, so deeply satisfying and cozy, is something we all experience, each in our own way.” This one word embodies everything I love about fall and winter (and life in general), and I’m excited to pour through this book and soak up every little tidbit about this lifestyle.
This book is one that immediately caught my eye because of the title, “Chasing Slow“. That’s exactly the direction I want my life to start taking this year – moving towards a more intentional pace rather than constantly chasing after what I think will make me happy next. All too easily I put my focus on numbers and stats and dollar signs. A couple years ago I made it my goal to reach 10,000 blog subscribers. That was the number I had decided was going to make my blog successful and make me truly happy. Well, 10k rolled around and, though I was excited about achieving that goal, I found myself wondering “what next?” and trying to figure out why I didn’t feel content and happy. The author of this book went through the exact same thing, and I’m really looking forward to learning from her experiences and putting some of her advice into action.
