To finish off the year, I thought it would be fun to share all of my favorite beauty products for 2017. As a beauty obsessive, it was incredibly hard to narrow down the list enough to be manageable for a blog post. I didn’t want to keep you guys reading for hours, so I was really strict with myself and only included the absolute best of the best of everything I used this year. If you’ve been looking for some beauty recommendations, this is definitely the post for you.
I feel like 2017 was a somewhat lackluster year in terms of new makeup launches that were actually worth the hype. Most of my makeup favorites from the year aren’t necessarily “new”, but there are a few that debuted this year that made the cut. The launch of Fenty Beauty absolutely rocked the beauty community, and I ended up discovering quite a few new items that have quickly become favorites. The one that stood out the most to me has been the Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter in Lightning Dust/Fire Crystal. This highlight is ridiculously gorgeous, giving the skin a nearly blinding sheen. I really love that you can wear each shade by themselves or swirled together for a stunning custom shade.
An old favorite that resurfaced for me this year was the Naked Basics 2 Palette. I used to love this palette but it got shoved to the back of my stash and sort of forgotten about. I pulled it out a few months ago and completely fell in love with it again. I’ve been using it most days to create simple, neutral eye looks that are incredibly easy to wear. Another eye favorite has been the Maybelline Color Tattoo in Creme de Rose. This shade is the prettiest pinky nude, and works perfectly as an eyeshadow base. My eyelids are quite thin and you can see the veins in them, so using a “your skin but better” shade like this is great for days when I just want to wear a little bit of makeup to appear more put together. The NARS Dual-Intensity Eyeshadows have been my favorites for when I want to create a more glam eye look. They’re incredibly easy to use and give you the best results, especially the shades Rigel (shimmering rose gold) and Dione (metallic champagne).
Glossier was a new brand I tried this year, and it quickly won me over. I highly recommend several of their products, but in the end I was able to narrow it down to just a couple items. Boy Brow instantly made the list because it has transformed how I do my brows. I tend to go for a more natural look instead of heavily filled in and precise brows. Boy Brow just has to be brushed through the hairs and it fills in sparse areas, adds shape and definition, and keeps the hairs in place all day long. Another Glossier favorite is Haloscope in Quartz. I love how dewy and glistening this makes my skin look, and it gets used even on days when I don’t wear any other makeup. It just gives the skin the most amazingly healthy glow.
Drugstore brands rolled out a few great releases, some I got my hands on and some I still need to try out. L’Oreal released a new mascara called Voluminous Lash Paradise and it quickly became a favorite over the summer. The waterproof version stayed in place all day without melting under my eyes, and gave me the most voluminous lashes. It really helps fan out your lashes while making them look fuller and curled. Rimmel London, known for their cult favorite Stay Matte Powder, released a new setting powder that I’ve been completely obsessed with all year. #Insta Fix & Matte Translucent Powder* has been my go-to product for setting my makeup, especially the under eye area and my t-zone. It blends into the skin so nicely without leaving a white cast, and keeps my face perfectly matte all day long.
My last two makeup favorite for the year were both hugely hyped in the blogging community, so naturally I had to try them to see if they were worth it (spoiler alert: they totally were). First up is Charlotte Tilbury’s Matte Revolution Lipstick in Pillow Talk. This is probably the most talked about lipstick in the entire blogging community. I saw it on literally every blog I follow, and after several months of waiting for it to come back in stock, was finally able to get my hands on it as well. The hype is real with this one, and I’ll tell you why. Not only is the shade a gorgeous nude pink that looks fantastic on everybody, but the formula is so rich and creamy while still giving a matte finish. The beauty community also lost it’s mind over Benefit’s release of the Galifornia Blush, and I fell for the hype of this product hard. I’m definitely a sucker for cute packaging, and Galifornia takes the cake. It’s not just cute on the outside though – the actual blush itself is so gorgeous and gives the cheeks the prettiest golden pink flush.
In my opinion, 2017 was a fantastic year for skincare. I tried so many amazing products, which made narrowing this list down even harder. Glossier of course makes an appearance with their Milky Jelly Cleanser. I’m forever a superfan of this cleanser, to the point where I have a couple bottles stored up so I never run out. It’s such an unbelievable product – gentle and soothing, yet strong enough to melt away all of my makeup with ease. I’m also obsessed with their Balm Dotcom, especially the Birthday scent because it literally smells like cupcakes and has tiny little flecks of glitter in the formula. These balms are so good, and are an absolute necessity come wintertime because they keep chapped lips at bay.
The Ordinary had quite a moment in the beauty community this year, and for good reason. This brand is incredibly affordable and provides high quality products and results. I’ve tried several of their skincare items, and the Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution easily stands out as one of the best. This toner uses gentle acids to eat away at dead skin cells, revealing radiant skin with a healthy glow. I’ve been using this for almost 6 months and it’s completely changed the way my skin looks and feels. My complexion is smooth and clear most days, and makeup application is so much easier because my skin has a better feel.
I love finding fun skincare products, and I Dew Care’s Disco Kitten mask is definitely a blast to use. This one makes the list because not only do you get to look like a disco ball while using it, but it also makes your skin feel so soft because it pulls out blackheads and removes dead skin cells. I usually follow it up with my next favorite for the year – Caudalie’s Beauty Elixir. This facial spray works magic for my skin, leaving it baby soft and hydrated like no other. I also love the herbal, minty scent that it leaves on my skin. It’s very soothing right before bed.
The Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer is getting included in the skincare section of this post because it is such a hydrating primer, it’s almost like a moisturizer. I love using this when my skin is particularly lackluster and in need of some radiance and moisture. It completely dries down to a smooth finish though, so it still works perfectly as a primer. My last favorite for the year also isn’t technically a skincare item, but I didn’t know where else to put it so it’s just going here. Essie’s Ladylike has become my new favorite nail color of all time, and I just had to tell you guys. It’s the prettiest muted pink, almost mauve-y shade and I’m completely obsessed with it. This is one of those polishes that you can wear anytime during the year and with any look, and it will still look gorgeous.
