3 Tips For Kissable Lips In Time For New Year’s Eve

A long-standing tradition for New Year’s Eve is to share a kiss with someone special when the clock strikes midnight. This can be quite a magical moment…unless your lips are drier than dirt and incredibly chapped. Dry lips can definitely kill a special moment, so it’s important to take some precautions so you don’t get caught with a dehydrated pout on the special night.

Exfoliate Regularly

The first step to smooth lips is definitely exfoliation. I’ve learned over time that regularly using a sugar scrub is the best way to keep dry, flaky patches away. The Rose Lip Polish* from French Girl Organics is an incredible scrub that works really well yet is still gentle enough to not aggravate the lips. This is the scrub I use most days, but if my lips are in really bad shape I’ll grab the Fresh Sugar Lip Polish. This is such a rich treatment for the lips, and the combinations of ingredients leaves them feeling soft, smooth, and incredibly moisturized.

Always Use A Lip Balm

Having an everyday lip balm that helps protect and hydrate is something that I think is super important. I use a few different ones depending on the time of day and how in need of moisture my lips are. Usually in the morning I’ll pop on some of the Fresh Sugar Lip Caramel Hydrating Balm* as the last step in my skincare routine. It smells wonderful and adds a lot of hydration without being sticky or greasy. Then, throughout the day, I’ll use Glossier’s Balm Dotcom in Birthday as needed for some glossy shine and to protect my lips from the chilly air and drying indoor heating. Before bed, I like to swipe on a richer balm since I sleep with a fan on and won’t be awake to reapply any for about 8 hours. For this, I reach for the Fresh Sugar Advanced Therapy Lip Treatment*. Not only does this smell divine, but it’s such a rich, nourishing balm that works wonders for dry, chapped lips.

Choose Hydrating Products

As a final step to help my lips stay hydrated and kissable, I like using lip colors that have a good amount of moisture to them when I’m not wearing a matte product. Clinique’s Pop Lip Colours are some of my favorites to use because they have a primer built in, thus resulting in incredibly smooth application and a creamy texture that’s very hydrating. If I’m not really wearing a lot of makeup and just want a slight wash of color on my lips, I love using the Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb. Though just a sheer gloss, I find this offers enough color for daytime wear and feels ridiculously buttery on the lips. It’s the perfect lip color for “no makeup” makeup days or lazy weekends.

Are you looking forward to sharing a smooch with someone special on New Year’s Eve?
