I don’t know about you guys, but every time it gets cold out my skin becomes dryer than the desert. I’m not sure if it’s because the air has become more dry or if the indoor heating is to blame, but whatever the culprit, my skin does not take to it very well. To combat the dryness, flaking, and itchy patches, I change my shower products up right around this time every year and it helps improve the quality of my skin so much.
First, I start off by switching my body wash or cleanser to something with added hydration. Lately I’ve been bouncing between Lush body washes (namely Snow Fairy and The Olive Branch) and the Body Hero Daily Oil Wash from Glossier. I’m forever a fan of the body washes from Lush because they always smell so good and do a great job of getting me squeaky clean without making my skin feel dry. The Body Hero Oil is such a cool way to get yourself clean and always leaves my skin feeling silky soft (which is much needed during this time of year). For my hair, I’ve been using Bumble and bumble’s Creme de Coco Shampoo. It’s an incredibly nourishing cleanser, so not only does it get my hair really clean but it also helps soothe and hydrate my scalp.
To really combat dry, itchy skin, I make sure to use an exfoliator in the shower at least twice a week. Right now, I’m using Soap & Glory’s The Scrub Of Your Life* and I’ve been absolutely loving it. The smell is their signature Pink fragrance, which I’m a huge fan of, and it sloughs away rough skin for a nice, healthy glow. My knees and elbows always feel so smooth after using this! For shaving, I’ve switched to a hydrating cream from Marin Bee called Honey Shave*. This is such an intensely nourishing cream and allows me to get a really close shave that leaves my legs silky smooth. I’m all on board with using actual creams instead of foams for shaving because they make the experience much easier.
I prefer washing my face when I’m in the shower because it way quicker to rinse off without making a mess. My all time favorite face wash is Glossier’s Milky Jelly Cleanser, and it has completely saved my skin during this cold weather. It’s so incredibly gentle on the skin and offers lots of hydration because it’s infused with soothing rosewater and vitamins for a conditioning cleanse. I like to follow my showers up with a body lotion or butter to really lock in all of the moisture, and lately Glossier’s Body Hero Daily Perfecting Cream has been my go-to. I love the smell of this cream and how intensely it hydrates my skin. It also has these tiny light-reflecting particles in it that give the skin a nice glow, which I especially appreciate right now since my skin has a tendency of appearing quite dull.
