With the Christmas season in full swing, it’s got me excited to get my makeup involved with the festivities as well. I love wearing glittery, glowy makeup this time of year. There’s tinsel and lights all over the place, so why not add some of that sparkle on my face as well? Today, I thought I would share all of my favorite shimmery makeup picks that look gorgeous for the holidays and help add a bit of seasonal cheer to your daily routine.
For me, a glittery makeup look always starts out with a glowing base. I like making my skin look as radiant as possible, so I’ve been using the NARS Radiance Primer to prep everything for the rest of my makeup. I love how hydrating it is and really adds a lot of glow to my complexion. Speaking of glow, my look would never be complete with at least one highlighter. I’m the type that really likes a blinding highlight, so I have a have a handful that I tend to wear either layered together or with different ones dusted over different areas. I like to start with a liquid or cream highlight – usually the NARS Illuminator in Copacabana – to create a base for powder products to stick to. If I’m going for a subtle glow, I’ll dust on some of the strobe powder from the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit 2 for a nice sheen.
However, when I’m really wanting to line people with my cheekbones, there are two highlighters that I always reach for. First is the Too Faced Love Light Prismatic Highlighter in Blinded By The Light. This gives the most amazing sheen of light to the skin, and it works so well for my pale complexion (which usually struggles with the golds and peaches of most highlighters). Second is probably my most used highlighter of the season – Fenty Beauty’s Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter in Lightning Dust/Fire Crystal. I got this after Lily recommended it to me, and I’ve been obsessed ever since. The two shades are both pale pearlescents (one subtle, one supercharged), and swirled together they create the prettiest shine that gives the skin a super healthy glow.
I’ve loved playing up the eyes lately, probably because I tend to stick to simple, neutral looks. The holiday season is the perfect excuse to wear glitters and metallics like crazy. The Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadows have been absolutely amazing, and I’ve loved using them to create the perfect glittery lid that doesn’t get all over the place. I’ve got the shades Kitten Karma (a pinky champagne) and Diamond Dust (a glittery silver), and I highly recommend both colors because they’re so easy to work with. I’ve also been loving the Dual-Intensity Eyeshadows from NARS for the days when I want a bit of metallic shimmer without going too insane. Rigel is a gorgeous rose gold shimmer that is the perfect one-wash kind of shade, and Himalia is a beautiful bronze that adds a nice bit of warmth to the eye.
A color that I’ve been loving for the inner corner and brow bone highlight has been L’Oreal’s Infallible Eyeshadow in Iced Latte. These shadows are affordable but give the kind of color payoff that you would expect from a high end eyeshadow. The shade Iced Latte is a gorgeous icy champagne and works so well as an inner corner highlight. Also, these blend out like a dream, just make sure to use your finger to get the best application. For my super fancy makeup looks, I like to pull out the Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Palette in The Uptown Girl. This quad has a the most amazing champagne glitter shadow and it looks fantastic paired with the other shades in the palette to create an intense smoky eye.
I’m not really one to wear glitter or metallics on my lips, and instead like to go as glossy as possible for lots of shine. I’ve been loving the Glossier Balm Dotcom in Birthday for a dose of hydration on days when I’m not wanting to wear a lot on my lips. It’s got little bits of glitter in it and smells exactly like cupcakes, so it’s definitely an essential for anyone’s collection. Fenty Beauty’s Gloss Bomb is my favorite gloss to wear at the moment. It’s a gorgeous rosy nude that’s extremely buttery, and I love how it works perfectly with any look I create. A similar shade with a little more shimmer is Revlon’s Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Rosy Future. This gloss looks beautiful by itself as well as over top another lipstick, and has a nice amount of shimmer to it so it really pops. My last lip favorite goes out to Glossier’s Lip Gloss, an item that may appear simple but is actually quite a game changer. This stuff makes your lips so incredibly shiny, almost like they’re made out of glass. I love pairing this with a matte lip color to create a super glossy and vibrant lip look.
It probably comes as no surprise that Essie makes it into this post since I talk about them so much on this blog. Their polishes are just so good, and they have some glittery options that I’m quite smitten with. Summit Of Style is a gorgeous bronze/gold glitter that looks amazing paired with muted neutrals, and A Cut Above looks so pretty as an accent nail, especially when paired with a milky nude like Ballet Slippers.
Are you a fan of sparkly makeup for this season?
