How I Heat-Proof My Concealer

I don't tend to wear much makeup on the super hot days – just some concealer, powder, mascara, and tinted lip balm. It's on days like these that I put in a little extra work at making sure my concealer does it's job for as long as possible since it's pretty much going solo.

After applying a light moisturizer with some SPF, I’ll apply a little bit of primer under both eyes and on any spots that need covering up. I’ve actually been using the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Eden ($20) as an under eye primer because it’s matte, smoothes over lines and pores, and has a little bit of a yellow tint to it so it works really well at covering up dark circles.

Next I’ll apply concealer on any dark spots and blemishes. Right now, I’ve been going back and forth between three concealers, depending on what I need it to do. If I need something with a crap ton of coverage, I’ll reach for my favorite NARS Creamy Concealer in Chantilly ($29). If all I’m really needing is some under eye coverage, I’ll use the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Concealer in Light  ($8.99). For days when my skin looks pretty good and just needs a small amount of coverage and a little brightening, Rimmel’s Wake Me Up Concealer in Very Fair/Light ($4.47) is all that I need.

After the concealer is applied, I’ll move on to setting it to ensure it stays all day (I absolutely swear by this step!). For this, I only need two products – Rimmel’s Stay Matte Powder ($4.99) and the Real Techniques Setting Brush ($7.99). Depending on if I need any additional coverage, I’ll use the Stay Matte powder in either Transparent or Creamy Natural. Taking the setting brush, I’ll gently pat powder over any areas where I applied concealer. Not only does this help my skin look matte all day, but it also keeps the concealer from creasing or sweating off mid-day. Then I just throw on some waterproof mascara and tinted lip balm, and I’m ready to battle the heat.

How do you ensure your makeup stays in place on hot days?
