4 Easy Ways To Update Your Makeup Bag For Fall

4 Easy Ways To Update Your Makeup Bag For Fall | A Girl, Obsessed

Now that the weather is changing and autumn is officially here, it's time to update our makeup bags with products fit for the season. The air gets super dry during the fall and winter months, so I like choosing makeup that offers a bit of hydration with a dewy finish. It's also the perfect season to play around with darker colors for a more vampy, dramatic look. If you're wanting to update your makeup bag for fall, here are a few easy ways that I like to do it each year.

Switch To A Hydrating Base

Due to the dry autumn air, it's definitely important to use base products that give some moisture back to the skin. Even if you apply moisturizer before your makeup (which you really should do), you'll probably notice dry, tight skin by midday, especially if you spend a lot of time outside. I've been using the Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer, and I highly recommend it to start off your autumn base. It really gives your face a boost, and my skin always looks healthier after using it. To combat dry lips (which of course are inevitable once the weather cools), I reach for the Balm Dotcom* from Glossier. I'm currently using the Birthday flavor, and it's absolutely incredible because it has the slightest bit of glitter in it and smells just like vanilla cupcakes.

Change Up Your Lip Look

My favorite way to incorporate some autumn vibes into my makeup is by changing up my lip colors. During the spring and summer, I wear a lot of pinks and corals, but once fall hits I switch everything up. My go-to shades are berries and warm nudes. MAC has some of my favorite berry lipsticks, including Craving and Captive. There are also some gorgeous options from Colourpop, and I've really been loving their Tootsi Lip Liner Pencil to go along with my greige favorites. For a quick and easy nude lip, I've been reaching for the Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Nude*. This is such a hydrating option, plus the color is a beautiful warm nude that isn't too dark or light.

Bring On The Highlight

I absolutely live for highlighting, and fall is my excuse to pack it on even more. Since my base is usually full coverage and matte, I like to add a double layer of highlighter to add some life and dimension back into my face. First, I'll go in with Glossier's Haloscope in Quartz* to create a dewy base for my second product. Since this is a cream highlighter, it has a slight tacky feel that is perfect for a powder to stick to. After that's applied, I'll go back in with a dusting of the Kevyn Aucoin Celestial Highlighting Powder in Candlelight to really make the high points of my face pop.

Keep It Neutral

The final way I like to update my makeup bag for fall is by adding in a bunch of neutrals to use for different looks. I like to keep my eyes simple yet versatile, which makes the Lorac Pocket Pro* the perfect palette for my autumn makeup bag. This has three gorgeous shades in it, and you can surprisingly get a lot of looks out of so few colors. Another neutral option I love for this season is the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Mood Exposure. This is such a pretty neutral blush with some hints of mauve that work perfectly for this season.
