50 Timeless Beauty Tips Every Girl Should Know | A Girl, Obsessed

Over the years, I've learned countless beauty tips from bloggers, makeup artists, family members, and friends (honestly, most I wish I would've learned years ago). Some tricks have come and gone, but there are certain techniques that will stand the test of time. From makeup and skincare to hair and body care, I have 50 of the most helpful beauty tips that every girl should know.

  1. Always moisturize your face before applying makeup for a more flawless application
  2. There should always be a 2-finger-width space between your nose and where your blush starts
  3. Use bronzer to contour your jawline to make your face appear slimmer
  4. Line your waterline with a nude eyeliner to make your eyes look bigger and more awake
  5. Brush clear mascara through your brows to keep them tamed and looking nice
  6. Don't wash your hair every day! Instead, wash it every 3-4 days. Your hair will become healthier and stronger.
  7. Use a body scrub before applying self tanner for even color
  8. Apply a shimmery lipgloss or eyeshadow to the center of your lips to make them look bigger and pouty
  9. If you struggle with oily eyelids, use blotting papers before applying eye primer and shadow to help them stay in place all day
  10. In the summer months, opt for a BB cream or tinted moisturizer instead of a heavy foundation. To make a quick tinted moisturizer at home, simply mix some of your current foundation with a bit of your daily face moisturizer. Ta-da!
  11. Use tea tree oil on pimples to get rid of them faster
  12. Shampoo is meant mostly for the scalp, and conditioner is more for the ends of your hair
  13. Clean makeup brushes once a week to keep them free of bacteria, which can cause breakouts
  14. When using a makeup sponge or beauty blender, always dampen them first for a flawless application
  15. Out of eye primer? You can use your concealer instead to fill in creases and help eyeshadow stay all day.
  16. If your lips are dry, make sure to exfoliate before wearing lipstick. If you don't, the lipstick will highlight every dry patch.
  17. After conditioning or using a hair mask, rinse hair with cold water to close the hair cuticles and lock in moisture
  18. Use a toner to help pores appear smaller and remove excess oils from your t-zone
  19. Use a clarifying shampoo once a week to remove any extra product that has built up
  20. Skin get burned trying a bunch of new skincare products? Soak a washcloth in cold milk and place it on your face for 10-15 minutes. Milk has natural properties to help soothe burned skin.
  21. To prevent ingrown hairs, exfoliate 2-3 times a week
  22. Replace wet makeup products, like mascara and liquid eyeliner, every 3-4 months
  23. If you have dry skin, opt for a non-foaming cream or milk cleanser. Gel cleansers that foam are more drying for your skin
  24. Use conditioner as shaving cream for a smooth and moisturizing shave
  25. To give your eyelashes a better curl, heat your lash curler with your blow dryer for a few seconds before curling
  26. It's never too early to start using eye cream and sunscreen every day
  27. Use a light hand when applying blush to avoid looking like a clown
  28. Tweeze your brows right after you shower - the steam from the hot water will have opened your pores, allowing for less-painful plucking
  29. If you have dark hair and notice a few gray strands popping out, try camouflaging them with mascara
  30. Don't pump your mascara! It allows air to get into the tube, causing your mascara to dry out and become flaky
  31. Keep your moisturizer in the fridge for a refreshing way to wake your skin up in the morning
  32. Use eye cream to fix dry, cracked cuticles
  33. Dry shampoo isn't just for in-between shampoo days. You can also use it to give volume and lift to your hair.
  34. Add a little bit of highlighter to your cupid's bow to make your lips look fuller
  35. Use a hair oil to combat any frizzies and dryness
  36. Remember that less is always more when it comes to beauty
  37. To prevent heat damage to hair, allow it to air dry after you shower and use a heat protectant spray before blow drying and curling/flat ironing hair
  38. Use a cotton swab soaked in nail polish remover to clean up any mistakes after painting your nails
  39. To get soft, just-back-from-a-pedicure feet, use a pumice stone in the shower to scrub away dry skin, and then use a rich, moisturizing body butter or cream
  40. Lips can get sunburned too! Make sure to use a lip balm with SPF.
  41. Mash up bananas or avocados for a silky, all natural hair mask
  42. You can use a little bit of concealer on a small brush to erase lipstick mistakes around your mouth - ideal when trying to perfect a bold red lip
  43. To get an instant brow lift, place a shimmery highlighter just below the brows
  44. When going for a subtle, natural makeup look, try matching your lipstick to your blush
  45. If you like to shower before bed but don't want to wake up to a rat's nest of hair, simply braid your hair before going to sleeping and you'll wake up in the morning to soft, effortless waves
  46. Use Visine on blemishes to reduce redness, and toothpaste to dry them up faster
  47. Go through your beauty stash regularly to get rid of things that have expired or that you no longer use
  48. Splurge on a silk pillow case to help prevent hair breakage and premature wrinkles
  49. Dust a highlighter on the tops of your cheekbones for a dewy look
