Eyeshadow Palettes Every Makeup Obsessive Should Own
My very first piece of high end makeup was an eyeshadow palette from Urban Decay that I had wanted for nearly a year. My mom got it for me for Christmas, and I used it religiously for months (and am still obsessed with it today). Ever since, I've been a huge fan of eyeshadow palettes and couldn't imagine my makeup routine without them. With so many different options out there on the market right now, it can be a little confusing when trying to figure out which ones you actually should invest in. That's why I've decided to put together this little guide to help all of you beauty obsessives out there.
The Neutral Palette
If you're only going to get one eyeshadow palette for your collection, I highly recommend picking up a neutral one. With neutral shades, you're able to create so many different looks that can work for any outfit or style. My favorite neutral palette is the Urban Decay Naked2 Palette. It includes such a wide array of gorgeous shades, from champagnes and taupes to golds and browns. I'm a huge fan of this palette for how versatile it is, and the shade "Bootycall" is one of my holy grail eyeshadows.
The Travel Palette
A good "on the go" palette is an absolute must. as much as i love some of my bigger palettes, they're just not very practical to toss in my makeup bag or in my suitcase for travel. Instead, I like reaching for a palette that is smaller, but still includes a few everyday shades that I can play around with. I have two that are my absolute favorite - first is the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette. This 6-color compact includes a beautiful array of matte neutral shades that can be used to create an impressive range of looks. I love this one for when I'm traveling but still want a bit of variety for my eyes. If I'm looking to go more minimalistic, I reach for LORAC's Pocket Pro Palette. This little guy includes 3 shadows that can either be worn alone for a simple one-swipe look or used together to create a more defined eye. The "Pewter" shade from this palette is absolute to die for!
The Do-It-All Palette
Having a palette that does a little bit of everything is really great, especially if you're wanting to keep your makeup collection to a minimum. When shopping for this type of palette, you'll want to look for a few things. Does it have some everyday shades? Are there a few colors to take an everyday eye to a nighttime look? How about a few fun colors for when you're feeling experimental? If the palette you have in mind is a yes to all three questions, then I think you've found a winner! The one that was a yes for me is the Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons Palette. I'm currently obsessed with this one because of all of the beautiful shades included, especially the lighter highlighting shades which blend out beautifully.
The "Build It Yourself" Palette
I love a good "build it yourself" eyeshadow palette! They're so much fun to put together, plus you get the advantage of getting to choose all of your shades so you're not stuck with anything you're not going to use. I went with MAC and built a little eyeshadow quad that contains a few colors that I'm absolutely smitten with (Naked Lunch, Shroom, Trax, and Era for those curious). I decided on MAC because their eyeshadow refill pans are so affordable (only $6 each!), but there are plenty of other options out there. Colourpop has started releasing their colors in little refill pans (plus you get a free magnetic palette to store them in when you purchase 4 or more), and you can always just get a Z Palette to store your favorite shades from any of your favorite brands.
The Luxe Palette
While most palettes can be purchased from cheaper brands and still offer quality results, I think every girl should own at least one high end luxe palette. There's just something incredibly satisfying about splurging on that makeup item that you've been lusting after for ages, plus 9 times out of 10 a higher price ensures higher quality. My makeup splurge ended up being the Uptown Girl Luxury Eye Shadow Palette from Charlotte Tilbury, and I really couldn't be happier with my decision. Every bit of makeup that I've tried from this brand has been stellar, and this palette is no exception. It includes 4 delicious shadows that are absolute heaven to apply. The two light shades look great by themselves, but then you can also incorporate the darker shades to create a really sexy smokey eye.
