5 Beauty Upgrades I'm Making This Year
A new year means new changes, and one area I've decided to switch up this year is beauty. I tend to be pretty stuck in my ways when it comes to the beauty items I use everyday. Unless it's makeup, I'll just stick with whatever products I've been using for years instead of venturing out and trying new brands or launches. For 2017, I want to upgrade some of my daily essentials to products that are higher quality and provide better results. I've chosen 5 types of products to upgrade, and I'm so excited to see how these impact my beauty routines!
I have to be honest here. I've been using the same type of deodorant since I was 14. I've never put much thought into what I use to keep my underarms smelling fresh - I just go with whatever's cheap and keeps me from offending others. Dove reached out to me to try their Advanced Care Antiperspirant, and I'm super excited because it sounds like a fantastic product. The Dove Advanced Care Antiperspirant offers 48 hours of odor and wetness protection plus added skincare benefits of Dove ¼ moisturizers and NutriumMoisture for softer, smoother underarms (who doesn't want those, right?). They have some great fragrances to choose from too - I picked out the Rebalance scent, which smells so clean and fruity/floral.
Similar to deodorant, I've always just used whatever random toothpaste caught my eye at the time. Lately, I've been experiencing some sensitivity when it comes to cold or sugary foods, so I think it's time to upgrade to a product that's more tailored to my needs. Another thing I've been concerned about is all of the harsh chemicals in cleansing products like toothpaste. I'd like to switch to something that will still fight plaque and whiten my teeth, but is also natural and made with ingredients that are real. I've done some research and have picked out a new toothpaste to test, fingers crossed it works!
A few months ago, I went on a hair coloring spree to try to get the perfect shade of caramel brown. As I'm sure you can all imagine, I ended up stripping all of the moisture from my hair (and never even got it to the color I wanted). I'm now left with the delightful task of repairing my locks, and I'm ready to update my haircare routine with high quality products that will nourish my hair back to life. I'm introducing some new hair oils and deep conditioning masks, but I'm also up for any suggestions you guys might have!
I really want to give my face a break this year from heavy makeup products. My skin has been a bit on the fritz lately, and it seems like whenever I wear foundation I end up suffering from small yet severe breakouts. To combat this, I've been going foundation-less most days, and when I do decide to wear a base product I've been opting for tinted moisturizers and light BB creams. Along with this, I've decided to start using skincare products that are more on the natural side. I'm not sure if my recent breakouts are due to the ingredients in the products I've been using, but I'm going to switch things up just to see if that's the culprit.
Along with skincare, I'm also wanting to switch up the types of lip products I use. Basically, I'm just feeling drawn to more natural, simple forms of skincare and beauty. Since my lips always tend to be dry, it just makes more sense for me to wear tinted lip balms and priming treatments instead of heavy lipsticks that can be drying. Not that I'm going to be completely giving up lipstick, but most days I'm going to opt for something lighter and more hydrating. Lip balms that include natural butters and oils are some of my favorites, especially if they offer a little color payoff. I'm also a huge fan of any lip care products that can be whipped up at home, like DIY sugar scrubs and salves.
