Cozy Sunday Picks
There's not much better than a cozy Sunday in. I love spending the day relaxing and recharging before prepping for the week ahead, and autumn in particular is my favorite time for this because it has me craving all of the hygge rituals that come along with the season. Luckily, the weather has finally gotten chilly here, so I've really been able to enjoy all that fall has to offer. For a warm and cozy day at home, I have a few essential items that are an absolute must to create the perfect snug environment.
A Festive Candle
Lighting a candle is my favorite way to set the mood for a cozy night in. Not only do they create the perfect ambiance, but the scents can evoke such a nostalgic feeling, ideal for the season at hand. I recently got my hands on the Simmered Cider Mug Candle* from Thymes and have been burning it like crazy. The scent is so perfect for autumn - freshly-pressed apples mulled with crushed clove and cardamom, with hints of bourbon and malted rum. It's the most delicious blend of sweet and spice, like you've just made a fresh batch of warm apple cider. Speaking of cozy drinks, you can actually use the mug once the candle is completely gone to mix up your favorite cold weather beverages. The mug is made of food grade stainless steel, so it's safe to use for drinks.
With the weather turning cold and dreary outside, there's nothing better on a day in than snuggling up under some cozy blankets. Most Sundays lately, I've been making myself a little blanket nest on the couch so I can work from my living room while still feeling comfy. This has also become my favorite spot for scary movie marathons and early morning cups of coffee. I've found some great throw blankets at places like H&M and Ikea, but I'm also determined to make my own blanket this year, either by knitting or crochet.
A Warm Beverage
A cozy day in isn't complete without a nice, warm beverage. There are so many options here - maybe you prefer a hot cup of tea or perhaps a rich mug of wassail. I've been on a hot cocoa kick lately, and I've finally created the perfect recipe. I use the little hot chocolate cups for my Keurig because they're so quick and easy to use, but by themselves they can be a little boring. To spice things up (literally), I first put some mini marshmallows, a dollop of whipped cream, and a dash of cinnamon in my mug. Then, I put my cup into the Keurig machine and let the hot cocoa pour over everything. This melts the marshmallows and whipped cream and blends it all together with the cinnamon, creating a rich, frothy drink with just the right amount of spice. Delicious!
When I'm curled up on the couch with a cozy blanket and a good book, it's the perfect time to do a nice skincare treatment. Since the weather is colder and the central heat is on more often, my skin dries out quicker than ever. To combat this, I love using hydrating oils and sheet masks to give my skin a bit of boost. If I'm spending a cozy Sunday at home, I'll usually throw on a moisturizing sheet mask followed by a few oils and serums. If I'm really looking for a good moisture boost, I'll grab some lotions as well to make sure all of my limbs stay soft and supple.
