Celebrating 3 + The Future Of AGO

Celebrating 3 + The Future of AGO | A Girl, Obsessed

I've really been looking forward to this post for the past few weeks. Today is not only my birthday, but it's also AGO's 3rd birthday. Since today starts a new year for both of us, I thought it would be the perfect time to catch up with you guys a bit and share my thoughts on the future of this blog and where I plan on taking it. First though, I want to say thank you to everyone who has spent the last 3 years reading and supporting my blog. I've really loved getting to make so many new friends and sharing things I'm passionate about on my little corner of the internet.

I started A Girl, Obsessed on January 19th, 2014 as a space for me to share my love of makeup and beauty. Over the past 3 years, I've written all about my favorite beauty products, reviewed several new makeup launches, collaborated with some amazing brands and bloggers, and shared my tips in an attempt to give back to this community that I love so much. AGO evolved slightly over the past year or two, but it's mainly been a beauty blog. As much as I love this topic, I've found myself growing older, and with that, my interested have evolved and changed. I will always have a love for all thing beauty, but the past few months I've found myself wanting more.

During the last few months of 2016, I really struggled with my blog (I'm sure you guys noticed from the lack of content). I felt that my interests and style were changing, and I was left a little clueless as to what I wanted the focus of my blog to be. It got to the point where certain posts (namely beauty roundups like monthly favorites and "what's in my makeup bag") felt superficial and repetitive...do I really need to share a pile of different beauty products a few times a month? Doing so only caused my bank account to dry up and my makeup table to overflow with products that were being used a handful of times and then forgotten behind the sea of new products I was constantly testing out. To be honest, it was becoming a bit ridiculous, and I felt like I was just enabling the whole "haul culture" like so many before me. I was in desperate need for change.

After much thought and prayer, I came to the conclusion that it would be best to just embrace this new direction I was heading in. I will always love reading and writing about beauty, but it's time I share other aspects of my life as well. I want to be able to write about things that I'm super passionate about, like simple living, my faith, home decor, trying new recipes, mindfulness and mental health, books I'm reading, and making things by hand. You'll still find beauty posts and blogging tips sprinkled throughout each month, but I'm ready to take AGO in a new direction - one that includes all that this girl is obsessed with.

I'm so excited for this change because it means that I get to branch out and get even more creative with my content. I've got so many new blog post ideas that it's a little crazy, and I have my excitement back to blog daily and create new posts for you all to read and enjoy. announcing all of this has been a little scary for me because I know with change comes disappointment. I'm sure I'll lose a few readers along the way who are not interested in all of these new topics, but my hope is that I'll be able to reach out to new people who have similar interests and that we'll all be able to rejoice in this next phase of life together.

Here's to a bright new future for this little blog. Now time for some birthday cake!
